Brittany & Carter | Big Bend National Park, Destination Engagement Session

Spring Break 2019, I packed up my family and we drove an entire day to a small town nestled outside of Big Bend National Park. We’d come to Big Bend so I could photograph an engagement session for Brittany and Carter. This fun-loving adventurous pair fell in love in Wyoming, so they needed a big backdrop for their engagement session. Big Bend was all that and then some. Situated on the Texas border, Big Bend is a vast expanse of mountains, valleys, and the Rio Grande. I knew I wanted to use several places in the park, but Santa Elena Canyon, would be the grand finale.

We arrived a day early to get a feel for the land. There really aren’t words to describe how massive the canyon is. Or how peaceful I felt while sitting at the base, listening to the sounds of the Rio Grande, while my children played in it. They skipped rocks with my husband and squealed about how they’d walked to Mexico and back. All I know, is I contemplated never leaving. For someone who loves the water and big wide open spaces, I felt strangely at home cradled in the canyon.

The next day, Brittany and Carter joined us. As so many of my couples do, they felt like family. I’d met Brittany several years earlier when I photographed her cousin Kristen’s wedding. I was thrilled when she contacted me last Fall to begin making plans for her own.

Brittany arrived with a basket full of treats and toys for my kids. An unexpected blessing and thank you for making the long journey. I was so touched that she thought of them, making them feel seen and appreciated. There really isn’t anything greater than when someone blesses the heart of those I love. I am immensely grateful.

So… I overshot… and we spent the day adventuring. And it was worth every. Single. Mile.

Brittany and Carter… you made this session all that it was. Thank you for being a complete joy. I cannot wait for your wedding this November at the Fort Worth Zoo!

With love and gratitude,

Kate
